It was originally launched in 2020 under the name Climate Emergency Community Action Programme (CECAP). The project\u2019s main aim is to bring together communities, organisations and businesses across Leeds to tackle climate change and social inequality, with a strong focus on achieving net-zero carbon emissions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The initiative secured \u00a32.5 million in funding from the National Lottery Climate Action Fund, creating a platform for collaboration among more than 40 groups across Leeds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2021, the programme rebranded as Climate Action Leeds (CAL) and expanded its partnerships to include five key organisations responsible for different aspects of the work:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Voluntary Action Leeds \u2013 project management<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Our Future Leeds \u2013 city-wide partnership development<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Together for Peace \u2013 supporting work in eight community-based climate action hubs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Leeds TIDAL \u2013 campaign and sector partner support<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Leeds Community Foundation \u2013 micro-grants programme management<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Overall, the programme addresses a broad range of areas, including energy, housing, food, nature, transport, education, the economy and climate justice. It hosts regular Climate Assemblies and runs a network of local climate hubs in eight neighbourhoods, where activists organise training sessions, campaigns, knowledge-sharing events and community initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In just three years, the organisation has become a driving force behind numerous green projects, distributed over \u00a345,000 in micro-grants, and reached more than 14,000 beneficiaries in Leeds. In 2023, Climate Action Leeds opened Imagine Leeds, a dedicated climate action hub.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Other Notable Environmental Organisations in Leeds<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Climate Action Leeds isn\u2019t the only organisation committed to improving the city\u2019s ecological footprint. Other key players include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Leeds Friends of the Earth \u2013 a volunteer-led group focused on environmental and social issues. It benefits from the support of a wider network, providing resources, training and lobbying efforts, while prioritising local environmental concerns in Leeds.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Horsforth Climate Action \u2013 a community of volunteers dedicated to reducing carbon emissions and supporting conservation work in Horsforth and the wider Leeds area. They organise events, projects and campaigns to raise environmental awareness among local residents.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Roundhay Environmental Action Project (REAP) \u2013 a community-based organisation in North Leeds promoting sustainable development through practical projects aimed at tackling climate change and improving quality of life.
